MEMBERSHIP &
COUNCIL ACTIVITY FAQ's:
1. What are the benefits of Council membership and how do I become a
member?
There are many benefits to membership in The Canadian Council
for Public-Private Partnerships, including access to a national
network of P3 leaders, discounts on publications and conference
registration and a subscription to valuable newsletters. There are
many levels of membership categories that will suit public and
private sector entities of all sizes. We have an on-line membership
application for your convenience.
2. How do I find out if I'm a member of The
Council?
Check the membership directory
to see if your organization is listed. The
membership level of your
organization determines whether or not you are a listed contact. For
example, sponsor members
have ten names associated with their organization.
Contact us to find out if you
are a listed contact or consider upgrading your membership level to
be eligible for more contacts - there are many
benefits to being a Council
member.
3. How do I get a preferred rate for publications?
Among other benefits, Council
members receive complimentary copies of our publications and
discounts on additional ones. See our
bookstore for specific costs.
4. When and where is the Annual Conference and who
can attend?
The Annual Conference on
Public-Private Partnerships is held in November each year in
Toronto. Members are entitled to a discount and sponsors get first
opportunities for sponsorships.
Anyone can attend the conference, but since it often sells out,
members are given priority as delegates.
5. What are the National Awards for Innovation and Excellence,
who qualifies, and how do I apply? The Canadian Council National Awards for Public-Private
Partnerships were established in 1998 to honour governments and/or
public institutions and their private sector partners who have
demonstrated excellence and innovation in the establishment of
public-private partnerships that benefit the public interest in
infrastructure projects or service delivery. The awards are
presented annually to showcase Canadian excellence and innovation in
project financing and/or generation of economic benefit, which
result in enhanced quality of public services and facilities. We
have more information online about qualifications and the
application package.
6. Is The Council a governmental organization?
The
Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnerships was established in
1993 as a non-partisan, non-profit body funded by members. We are
national in scope and currently have over 260 members from both the
public and the private sectors in almost equal numbers.
7. What is the definition of public-private
partnership?
The Council defines a public-private partnership as:
"A cooperative venture between the public and private sectors,
built on the expertise of each partner, that best meets clearly
defined public needs through the appropriate allocation of
resources, risks and rewards."
8. Can I get more information on public-private
partnerships from The Council?
We make every effort to accommodate information requests for use
in speeches, research, business proposals, etc. However, our limited
resources prevent us from devoting considerable time to fulfilling
requests, other than for our members. If you would like more
information, please visit other sections of this website, consider a
membership, view our links page, or order one of our
publications. Other information is
available on a charge basis.
9. Do public-private partnerships adversely
affect public sector jobs?
Since its founding in 1993, The Council has recognized the
crucial role that employees and unions play in forming successful
public-private partnerships across Canada and internationally.
Several of our publications detail the issues surrounding employee
transfers and many demonstrate that P3s have and will continue to
result in positive outcomes for employees and unions as governments
change their role in delivering services.
