The use of transportation PPPs in Canada has been growing steadily in the past few years. Transportation PPPs are used extensively throughout the world and can provide significant benefits to governments looking to share capital costs and transfer risks.

The Minister discussed his government's support for public-private partnerships, as well as the federal government's role in – and the need for – infrastructure investment across Canada.

Mr. Gandil provided an overview of the history of toll roads in France as the government increased and is now divesting its controlling positions in the concessions.

Summary of remarks by Robert Poole, Director of Transportation Studies, Reason Foundation, USA, at a Council event on June 10, 2005. Mr. Poole discussed the recent "tolling revolution" occurring in the US, with a number of new HOT (High Occupancy Toll) Lanes and toll roads being developed.
